Letter of Interest: Park, Recreation & Environmental Commission August 5th, 2010 Mr. Schawn Johnson Assistant to the City Manager City of New Brighton 803 Old Highway 8 NW New Brighton, MN 55112 Dear Mr. Johnson, Graeme Allen 427 11`h Ave NW New Brighton, MN 55112 612-481-2144 graememallen@hotmail.com I was delighted to hear that there were openings on the New Brighton Parks, Recreation, and Environment Commission. I have been increasingly involved in city government over the past several years. I have learned a great deal about the programming and financing of the Parks and Recreation Department (I am happily learning more all of the time!). I have always felt a strong desire to serve and (attempt to)'give back' to the community. Either through my organizational and civic involvement or through my work on behalf of college students, I have demonstrated a commitment of to improving lives and communities. New Brighton has become my adoptive home and I know that I can offer a different perspective on the Commission as a recently arrived younger resident. I believe that the work of the Commission and the Parks Department are vital to the quality of life that we have in the city and are one of the many things that make New Brightoners have a true sense of community. I know that it has deepened my sense of belonging and neighborhood. I feel I posses the passion and energy to work with fellow citizen commissioners to talk about our city and work with the Department and other city, county and state agencies to represent the residents of New Brighton the best I can. I believe that by the Commission acting as eyes and ears in the community, we can do our best to highlight the issues and help promote the programming that people have come to expect while striking a budget balance during these tough economic times.
