Johnson, Assistant to the City Manager SWl�s CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL: No comments to supplement this report Comments attached Recommendation: Motion by the City Council to approve the City Commissioner/Committee Member Orientation Packet. Explanation: For the past few months, City staff has been working on creating a new City Commissioner/Committee Member Orientation Packet. The intent of the Commissioner/Committee Member Orientation Packet is to create one standard document that assists new commission/committee members to: 1. Become better acquainted with the history of the City. 2. Gain a better understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the City Council, Commissions, and various City departments. 3. Become more knowledgeable of the roles and responsibilities of a commission/committee member. The proposed Commissioner/Committee Member Orientation Packet is divided into three sections. The first section of the orientation packet provides an overview of the following topics: ➢ Historical information regarding the City of New Brighton; ➢ The City of New Brighton's Vision, Mission, and Goals; ➢ Organizational Roles and Responsibilities; ➢ Introduction to Robert's Rules of Order; ➢ Commission/Committee Members Code of Conduct. The second section of the proposed Commission Orientation Packet includes a copy of the City of New Brighton's organizational chart and Chapter 2 (Article 4) of the City Code which addresses the roles and responsibilities of the various commissions. The third section of the proposed Commission Orientation Packet provides a number of informational articles and a Robert's Rules of Order Motions Chart. In conclusion, the Commission/Committee Member Orientation Packet provides general background information and an overview of the roles and responsibilities of a commission/committee member. The information in this document serves as an informational guide to help all of our commission/committee members become better informed and to make their experience with the City more rewarding. The Commission/Committee Member Orientation Packet is a fluid document that will require periodic updating and modifications due to changes made internally (City) and externally (federal and state requirements) in the future.
