Johnson, Assistant to the City Manager SWl�s <br />CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL: <br />No comments to supplement this report Comments attached <br />Recommendation: <br />Motion by the City Council to approve the City Commissioner/Committee Member Orientation <br />Packet. <br />Explanation: <br />For the past few months, City staff has been working on creating a new City Commissioner/Committee <br />Member Orientation Packet. The intent of the Commissioner/Committee Member Orientation Packet is to <br />create one standard document that assists new commission/committee members to: <br />1. Become better acquainted with the history of the City. <br />2. Gain a better understanding of the roles and responsibilities of the City Council, <br />Commissions, and various City departments. <br />3. Become more knowledgeable of the roles and responsibilities of a <br />commission/committee member. <br />The proposed Commissioner/Committee Member Orientation Packet is divided into three <br />sections. The first section of the orientation packet provides an overview of the following topics: <br />➢ Historical information regarding the City of New Brighton; <br />➢ The City of New Brighton's Vision, Mission, and Goals; <br />➢ Organizational Roles and Responsibilities; <br />➢ Introduction to Robert's Rules of Order; <br />➢ Commission/Committee Members Code of Conduct. <br />The second section of the proposed Commission Orientation Packet includes a copy of the City <br />of New Brighton's organizational chart and Chapter 2 (Article 4) of the City Code which <br />addresses the roles and responsibilities of the various commissions. <br />The third section of the proposed Commission Orientation Packet provides a number of <br />informational articles and a Robert's Rules of Order Motions Chart. <br />In conclusion, the Commission/Committee Member Orientation Packet provides general <br />background information and an overview of the roles and responsibilities of a <br />commission/committee member. The information in this document serves as an informational <br />guide to help all of our commission/committee members become better informed and to make <br />their experience with the City more rewarding.
