Parks and Recreation <br />Parks and Recreation is responsible for coordinating recreational activities for the community, <br />• <br />operating the Family Service Center and golf course, and maintenance of the City's park system. <br />The Parks and Recreation Director is assisted by the Assistant Parks and Recreation Director, <br />Facilities Manager, Parks Maintenance Manager, Golf Operations Manager, Recreation Supervisors, <br />Office Assistant, and many other staff members that assist in the day-to-day operations of this <br />department. <br />The City's 13 parks (12 neighborhood parks and one community park), contain 160 acres of park <br />and open space. The parks offer playground equipment, trails, ball diamonds, soccer and football <br />fields, disc golf, skate boarding and climbing equipment, picnic facilities, tennis and basketball <br />courts. The department also operates four Neighborhood Centers (Freedom, Hansen, Totem Pole <br />and Sunny Square). The City offers the neighborhood centers, park fields, and equipment for <br />reservation/ rental to the public. <br />The 70,000 square foot Family Service Center (FSC) is home to the Parks and Recreation <br />Department and is a focal point for the community. 300,000 guests visit the FSC annually for <br />recreation, social, and business purposes. <br />The City owns and operates Brightwood Hills Golf Course, a 9 -hole, executive par 30, course. In <br />addition to playing a round of golf; golf leagues, golf lessons, and the driving range are available to <br />the public. <br />The Parks & Recreation Department strives to enhance the quality of life for New Brighton citizens <br />and visitors through high quality services and facilities. The City believes that parks and recreation <br />contributes to the overall health of a community, neighborhoods, and individuals. New Brighton <br />offers park facilities and recreation programs/ activities year round for residents of all ages and <br />abilities.
