Department Reports <br />Human Rights <br />Commissioner Woods reported she attended the State Human Rights Council meeting last <br />Sunday. She spoke about the State Human Rights Council having their annual competition for <br />6t', 71h and 8t' graders where the students participate in a writing competition. <br />Commissioner Woods stated this was a more meaningful meeting this time. <br />Allina Medical <br />During the 1 -day authorized nurse's strike, 290 transfers were done by Allina' to non. striking <br />hospitals. If there is another nurse's strike, there should be less capacity so fewer transfers will <br />be needed. <br />Volunteers in Public Safetv (VIPS <br />Commissioner Woods reported the following: <br />o VIPs sold 7 bicycle helmets at a Boy Scout Rodeo. <br />....... <br />o VIPs continue to d........ <br />.......... <br />.. o fingerprinting weekly. <br />o VIPS . and Police Reserves met to prepare/plan for Stockyard Days. <br />a VIPS discussed getting summer uniform shirts like the Police Reserves have. <br />o The next Red y <br />Cross Blood Drive will be Tuesday, Sept. 7th. <br />.......... .. <br />o VIPS are investigating the possibility of using the Masonic Safety Identification Program <br />(Safety ID). Their E -Z Child ID System produces a mini CD-rom that contains critical <br />identification information. <br />Public Safety / Homeland Security Update <br />The May monthly report was briefly reviewed. <br />The quadruple shooting continues as an active investigation. <br />Commissioner Tollefson inquired about National Night Out. Deputy Director Paetznick reported <br />National Night Out will be Tuesday, August 3rd, All of this information is on the web site. We <br />will be doing the food drive again.
