Jacobson, Director of Public Safety CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL: No comments to Recommendation: lement this report attached Approval of the grant amendment with the Commissioner of Public Safety, Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management Legislative History: On 12 August 2008, Council approved the original grant document with an expiration date of March 31, 2010. This grant amendment extends the deadline of the grant to December 15, 2010. Federal funds are provided by the United States Department of Homeland Security, through the 2007 Homeland Security Grant Program, Award Number 2007 -GE -T7-0027, for the Citizen Corps Program. Financial Impact: The City is receiving $6,487.40 for training, equipment, and personnel costs associated with the Department of Public Safety's existing Citizen Corps. This funding supplements the department's annual budget for crime prevention and community engagement efforts through public safety in New Brighton. Explanation: The State of Minnesota Department of Public Safety Division of Homeland Security and Emergency Management awarded the City of New Brighton a local grant to enhance our existing Citizen Corps activities. The funds will be utilized to obtain new equipment, provide training, and reimburse personnel costs associated with the continued growth and maintenance of our agency's successful crime prevention and community engagement programs.
