•
Office Marketing Efforts
The City Council approved a consulting agreement with Arne Cook to assist the City in finding a
developer or broker to market the commercial sites. In the next few weeks he'll meet with some of the
larger firms in the market to assess their interest in the project. Staff will provide updates to the EDC as
this process moves along.
Northwest Quadrant Names
Staff is recommending that the City hold off on selecting a new name for the NWQ until more is known
about the broker/developer arrangement.
NW Refinery
The City has been informed that the Attorney General's office, MPCA and Ashland Oil are finalizing an
agreement concerning the clean-up of the former NW Refinery site. The City will have to work out an
access agreement with Ashland Oil, it is preferred to complete the work in the winter.
Commissioner Flahave questioned if the state has deemed Ashland as the responsible party.
Director Fernelius confirmed and reported the site would be cleaned up to an industrial standard, and
removed from the Superfund list.
Railroad Wye
Director Fernelius reported that after nearly 5 years of intensive efforts by the City, MT Properties and
Minnesota Commercial Railroad the wye project is dead. The City received a letter from MT Properties
that the company could not break the impasse with the Canadian Pacific (CP) on lease terms and
maintenance costs. Because there was little use for the line, the railroads didn't want to pay money to
the CP.
Director Fernelius reported the land was sold back to the railroad; there are three or four years left for
the option for the railroad to sell the land back to the City.
Other Topics
The next regular meeting scheduled for Tuesday, December 21, 2010 has been cancelled, it was agreed
that Director Fernelius will email any pertinent information,to the members. The EDC will next meet
January 18, 2011.
Adjournment
Motion by Commissioner Benke, seconded by Commissioner Snell to adjourn the meeting.
Meeting adjourned at 8:40 am.
