DEPARTMENT HEAD'S APPROVAL: Robert J.Jacobson, Director of Public Safe-Vi"-(fl CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL: No comments to supplement this report Comments attached Recommendation: City Manager Dean Lotter will recognize several awardees from the Police Division for their accomplishments. Legislative History: N/A Explanation: The New Brighton Dept. of Public Safety Police Division held their annual meeting at the Public Safety Center on January 21 st,2011. During the meeting as is customary several awards were presented to members of the Police Division. Several of these awards will be recognized tonight by City Manager Dean Lotter and includes: Police Officer of the Year—Det. Mitch Singer who was the lead investigator on several significant incidents in New Brighton in 2010 Traffic Safety Officer of the Year—Officer Dustin Bengtson who was one of the top performers in the Police Division for hazardous moving violations,traffic safety and DUI arrests in 2010 Special Commendation—Officer Dustin Bengtson who arrested two armed Robbery suspects on January 12th Special Commendation—Officer Matt Voeller who used his investigative skills to assist in the identification of a shooting suspect at Oak Grove in June of 2010 Commendation—Officer Ted Layton while off duty assisted in the arrest and detention of four criminal suspects who had been involved in a series of Thefts in Minneapolis The Police Division also recognized several other Police Division members during the annual meeting who will not be present tonight to include the following: I'\COUNCIL\REPORTS12011\Public Sarety\Public Safely Award Recognilion.doe ti
