Tower Options
As indicated by Mike O'Rourke in previous meetings with the staff at the City, Clearwire feels that it
acted in good faith to provide the city with a viable tower that it requested through the "Findings of
Facts" for the SUP. Clearwire thought that it understood that the city intended the constructed tower to
be used as a future revenue generating source by adding the requirement for future wireless carriers.
Clearwire is willing to resolve this tower misunderstanding, but feels that the city is equally culpable in
the misunderstanding and should participate in half of the cost of the resolution. The information for
the possible solutions to the misunderstanding is outlined below.
1. Leave the existing tower in place but prepare the galvanized surface and paint the tower. (We
are assuming possibly some shade of brown.)See sample photo of painted tower. Finish light
installation and removal of old light tower. Cost for tower painting$9,500.00.
2. Erect a COW and transfer existing Clearwire services to the Cow and then replace the current
tower with a new smaller 39 inch diameter Valmont tower on the same foundation. The new tower
would hold Clearwire,The ball field lights, and city required future carriers and extension. When the
tower is installed, transition Clearwire and the Lights back to the tower and remove the COW and the
present light tower. Restore premises. Cost for new tower($40,100.00)and construction ($51,583.12)
for a total cost of$91,683.12.
3. Erect a COW and transfer existing Clearwire services to the Cow and then replace the current
tower with a new 30 inch diameter Valmont tower on the same foundation which would also hold CW
and the ball field lights only. Following the new tower installation transition Clearwire and the Lights
back to the tower and remove the COW and the present light tower. Restore premises. Cost for new
tower($27,788.00) and construction ($51,583.12)for a total cost of$79,371.12.
4. Erect a COW and transfer existing Clearwire services to the Cow and then replace the current
tower with a new 26.5 inch Valmont tower on the same foundation which would ONLY hold Clearwire.
Following the new tower installation, transition Clearwire back to the tower and remove the COW,
Leaving in Place the present light tower and lighting system. Restore premises. Cost for new tower
($22,866.00)and construction ($37,379.45)for a total cost of$60,245.45.
