Commissioner Benke asked if Welsh has thought about a hotel development.
Lou Suarez commented that the current Hilton Homewood Suites serves the area very well, and does not
see a need for an additional hotel.
Commissioner Benke reminded the group that Long Lake Regional Park and the New Brighton
Community Center are great marketing amenities.
Commissioner Flahave questioned what differentiates Welsh from Northmarq. Mr. Lien stated they are
both good brokers, and Welsh will not compete against other developers. Mr. Gonsior commented they
are a committed group who enjoy their work.
Commissioner Beach asked if they have hospital experience. Mr. Suarez stated a hospital would be
pretty unlikely given the legislative hurdles, but could possibly see a smaller health care clinic.
Director Fernelius reported the EDC will discuss today's interviews as well as the recent Developer
interviews at their next meeting;April 19th, and would hope to have a recommendation to the City
Council following that meeting.
The meeting ended at 9:45.
