April 12, 2011 Page 7 of 8 4Ayes,1 Nays - Motion Carried Ayes: Mayor Jacobsen, Councilmembers Burg, Phillips and Samuelson ' Nays: Councilmember Bauman Commission Liaison Reports, Announcements and Updates Dean Lotter City Manager Lotter reported it is National Volunteer Week. The 34th Annual Town Hal will be April 16`h from 8:00-12:00. The focus will be on volunteers and volunteering opportunities in the City of New Brighton. There will be an update on the Library project, and a question and answer time with the Mayor and Councilmembers. Mr. Lotter will be speaking to the League Of Women Voters on Thursday, April 14`h. Mr. Lotter announced to the council that the annual meeting of Metro Cities will be taking place in St Paul. The City will be changing the "In the Neighborhood" newsletter; combining it with the Parks & Recreation program guide, providing a substantial cost savings. Gina Bauman Councilmember Bauman reported the EDC did not meet, and will next meet April 19, 2011. It was reported that council did rotate liaisons, and she will now serve on the Planning Commission. She attended the North Suburban Cable Commission, and is part of the Human Resource Commission. The scholarship committee will meet April 20tH. Mary Burg Councilmember Burg attended the PREC meeting, and is looking forward to moving to the 'Public Safety commission. The trained volunteers were addling eggs in order to control the goose population in some of the City parks. The trails committee has joined the PREC commission, and held a discussion related to the strategic plan. An Arbor Day Event is planned for April 29`n at Hansen Park with students from Bel Air Elementary. David Phillips Councilmember Phillips reported he attended the Public Safety Commission meeting. The Planning Commission will meet April 19th. Residents were encouraged to apply for one of the Advisory Commissions. Char Samuelson Councilmember Samuelson reported she will be moving to the Economic Development Commission. Public Safety Volunteer recognition will be May 15th, at the New Brighton Community Center. Severe Weather Awareness week is occurring this week. Neighborhood Police will be attempting to visit all households in the City. The Public Safety Commission next meets April 27tH Mayor Jacobsen Mayor Jacobsen encouraged attendance at the Town Hall meeting.
