Allina Medical <br /> Dave Matteson indicated that they are going thru significant hiring processes. He also <br /> indicated that Life Link will be getting out of the patient ground transport business <br /> between hospitals and will be focusing only on air transports. He also introduced Jon <br /> Kamrud from Allina. Jon is a primary supervisor, handles IT issues and is in charge of <br /> the Allina Medical bike team. Jon may attend future meetings in the future dependent <br /> upon Dave Matteson's schedule. <br /> Volunteers in Public Safety (VIPS) <br /> Commissioner Woods reported: <br /> VIPS held their monthly meeting last night. The last blood drive resulted in 30 pints of <br /> blood. VIPS also assisted Trevor Hamdorf with a"disaster scenario". They have added <br /> four new members to VIPS. Members have been active putting "violation cards" on <br /> vehicles in parking lots that have visible property attracting or making them vulnerable to <br /> thefts. The next blood drive is June 29th and the Volunteer Appreciation Dinner is May <br /> 15th. And, VIPS may assist with a senior safety fair in August or September. <br /> Public Safety/Homeland Security Update <br /> Director Jacobson reported the following: <br /> Officer Mary Bitzan has retired effective April27th. Officer Bitzan had a successful 20 <br /> year career. Public Safety has hired a new Office Technician, Gina Krahn, who will <br /> begin her duties on May 9th. Julie Forbord will be receiving the Excellence in Service <br /> award from the Professional Law Enforcement Assistants Association at their annual <br /> conference on April 28th. The City conducted a tornado exercise and with the help of <br /> several volunteers the event was a success. And, the City had a reported exposing <br /> incident on April 21st. The investigation is continuing. And, Town Hall was a success <br /> with four volunteers speaking about our Public Safety programs. <br /> Council Liaison <br /> Council Report <br /> Council Member Samuelson reported that the Library is on schedule and may open in <br /> October. Council approved a"doggie day care" in New Brighton. And, the ground <br /> breaking for New Brighton Exchange will be in May. The Council approved a name <br /> change for the Family Service Center and it will now be called the New Brighton <br /> Community Center. And, Mary Burg will be the Council Rep beginning May 1st for the <br /> Public Safety Commission. Members thanked Council Member Samuelson for her <br /> service. <br /> Old Business <br />
