Report No. 11-314. *Moved from the Consent Agenda <br />Councilmember Bauman reported that she does not agree with paying to have a lobbyist in <br />Washington, because she hasn't seen any recent progress. It was suggested that City Staff <br />lobby at the local offices, rather than spend resources on a lobbyist. <br />Motion by Councilmember Burg, seconded by Councilmember Samuelson to approve the request <br />as stated in the resolution. <br />2 Ayes, 3 Nays- Motion Failed <br />Ayes: Councilmember Burg and Samuelson <br />Nays: Mayor Jacobsen, Counctlmember Bauman and Ph171ips <br />Commission Liaison Reports Announcements and Updates <br />Dean Lotter <br />City Manager Lotter reported that he will be attending a meeting, "Redesigning Local <br />'Government" hosted by the League of Minnesota Cities. A meeting with Mounds View <br />Schools District 621 will be attended the beginning of December to discuss demographics <br />within the district. <br />Currently two unions are in negotiations, both Police Officers and Sergeants, an update will <br />be forthcoming in the Friday memo. November 17"i there is a Policy Adoption Conference, <br />both City Manager Lotter and the Mayor plan to attend. It was reported that Ashland has <br />started excavation work in the New Brighton Exchange; petroleum type odor may be <br />noticed. <br />Gina Bauman <br />Councilmember Bauman reported that the Planning Commission met for a worksession, the <br />temporary sign ordinance was reviewed. One of the preliminary suggestions include <br />allowing 4 annual permits at a reduced cost, allowing more flexibility for local businesses. <br />The cable commission continues to work with Comcast on contract negotiations. <br />Mary Bure <br />Councilmember Burg reported that the Public safety Commission next meets November 28a' <br />at 6:30 pm, a petition from residents in the Pike Lake/Robin Lane neighborhood will be <br />considered. It was reported that Officer Ted Layton has joined the National Guard and will <br />begin service in late November 2011. The annual fundraiser for Community Partners with <br />Youth was attended. Councilmember Burg reported she is honored to serve as <br />Councilmember for another term, and thanked all the resident's who voted at the recent <br />I <br />election. <br />2.
