October 11, 2011 Page 5 of 5 <br />Councilmember Bauman attended the cable commission meeting; the non-compliance from <br />Comcast was discussed. <br />'Mary Burg <br />Councilmember Burg reported that Deputy Fire Chief Trevor Hamdorf received notice <br />of a grant award of $4770 for CERT training. Several fires have recently occurred, all still <br />under investigation. Residents were reminded to check their smoke detectors. The fire <br />department will hold an open house on Monday October 24th from 6:00-8:00 pm. <br />The following members of the Public Safety Department participated in the Twin Cities <br />Marathon; Dustin Bengston, George Springer, Matt Farmer, Ashley Farmer, Andy Vik, Brad <br />Krebsbach, Tony Paetznick, Bob Jacobson and Beth Johnson. Councilmember Burg <br />attended the Harvest Dinner hosted by the New Brighton Historical Society. <br />Congratulations were extended to the Public Safety Department as recipient of the 2011 <br />Community Policing Award from International Association of Chiefs of Police; noting this is <br />the second time New Brighton has received the award. <br />David Phillips <br />Councilmember Phillips reported the City attorney reviewed the open meeting law at the <br />recent PREC Commission meeting. The commission reviewed a petition referred from the <br />City Council regarding the 1/2 court basketball court at Silver Oaks, the commission will <br />continue to review the request, and possibly hold a Public Hearing in the coming months. <br />Councilmember Phillips reported Perkins located on County Rd D will donate a portion of <br />their proceeds for the month of November to Friends of the Library, noting a coupon is <br />required, and coupons will be available at the open house on October 29th, and at City Hall. <br />'Char Samuelson <br />Councilmember Samuelson reported the EDC next meets October 18, 2011 at 7:30 am. <br />Mayor Jacobsen <br />Mayor Jacobsen reported Friends of the Library has reached $75,000, towards the $100,000 <br />goal. Also reported was One Book, One Community, will be kicking off soon.
