pity of
NEmoiN Report Number 12-054
W
Agenda Section VI-10
the city that works for you Council Meeting Date February 28,2012
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION
ITEM DESCRIPTION: Revision to 2012 Fee Register regarding Temporary Sign Permit fees.
DEPARTMENT HEAD'S APPROVAL: Grant Fernelius, Community Development Director
CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL:
No comments to supplement this report Comments attached
15.99 Deadline: Not applicable
Recommendation: Approve an amendment to the 2012 Fee Register, lowering the Temporary Sign
Permit fee from$90 to $45.
Legislative History: January 24, 2012: The City Council adopted Ordinance No. 809, which amended
the rules regarding certain types of temporary signage. As part of the Planning Commission
recommendation accepted by the City Council, the Temporary Sign Permit fee was to be lowered in the
fee register from $90 to $45.
Financial Impact: While the permit fee is being cut in half, businesses now have the opportunity to
obtain twice as many temporary sign permits per calendar year. Assuming businesses take advantage of
additional sign permits, the total fees collected should remain unchanged.
Explanation: On January 24, 2012, the City Council adopted Ordinance No. 809 concerning
amendments to the temporary sign rules of Zoning Code Section 9-046. One component to these
changes included an increase in the number of temporary sign permits that businesses can obtain during
a calendar year. Under the previous rules, two permits per year were allowed. Under the amended
rules, four permits per year are allowed. Unchanged is the total number of days that businesses can
display temporary signs. In an effort to not further financially burden businesses with these changes,
adoption of Ordinance No. 809 included lowering the Temporary Sign Permit fee from $90 to $45.
Thus, the 2012 Fee Register needs to be amended as follows to reflect this change:
Current Temporary Sign Permit Fee $90
Proposed Temporary Sign Permit Fee $45
Costs and Funding: Not applicable
ãutkct 64vL
Janice Gundlach
City Planner
