HEAD'S APPROVAL: <br /> MANAGER'S REVIEW/RECOMMENDATION: <br /> No comments to supplement this report Comments attached <br /> EXPLANATION/SUMMARY (attach supplemental sheets as necessary) <br /> To consider a resolution which authorizes application to the Metropolitan Council for a Metropolitan Liveable <br /> Communities Grant to assist with the financing of the redevelopment of the Rice Creek Shopping Center site. <br /> STAFF SUMMARY <br /> The Metropolitan Liveable Communities Act authorizes the Metropolitan Council to provide funds to cities through the <br /> Liveable Communities Demonstration Account for projects that demonstrate creative, innovative and efficient <br /> development. <br /> Staff has prepared a grant application requesting funding to cover a portion of the cost to redevelop a large section of the <br /> Rice Creek Shopping Center building for a 100 unit coop- senior housing facility. The proposal, which has not yet been <br /> sewed by the City Council on a formal basis,would also include a 20 unit addition to be constructed onto the existing <br /> ghtondale senior housing facility. This proposed addition would house patients with Alzheimer's disease. Other site <br /> improvements could include a walkway system to provide for pedestrian access from the senior housing facilities to the <br /> surrounding commercial uses and public ways. <br /> The City Council is being asked to approve the attached resolution which authorizes staff to make application for the <br /> Liveable Communities grant. <br /> RECOMMENDATION <br /> Motion to WAIVE THE READING AND ADOPT THE ATTACHED RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING <br /> APPLICATION TO THE METROPOLITAN COUNCIL FOR A METROPOLITAN LIVEABLE COMMUNITIES <br /> GRANT. <br /> Erny Mattila,City Planner <br /> • <br /> G:1CD1-97-CCIREPORTSIERNYIMLCGRANT WPD <br />
