Agenda Section:V I-3
CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON
Report Number:96-0 48
0 REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION
Report Date: 2/22/96
ITEM DESCRIPTION: PURCHASE OF TANKER TRUCK FOR PARKS AND STREET DEPARTMENTS
DEPT. HEAD'S APPROVAL: N/A
MANAGER'S REVIEW/RECOMMENDATION:
No comments to supplement this report 4 Comments below/attached
EXPLANATION/SUMMARY (attach supplemental sheets as necessary):
The 1996 budget contains an allocation for replacement of a 1971 tank truck. The existing truck is used for
flooding rinks in the winter, watering trees and occasionally turf in the summer. The truck is also used by the
street department in its street sweeping program. Replacement of this truck is essential to keeping our labor
costs low while keeping our service levels high.
e current truck has outlived its usefulness, is very inefficient and is becoming dangerous to operate. Both
mechanics strongly recommend its replacement.
The City has two options in purchase of the truck and tanker unit. If the tank and truck are purchased as a
unit, the cost will be about $90,000. If the chassis and tank are purchased separately, there will be a savings
of$5,000-$10,000. The Department recommends separate purchases for that reason. It is also necessary to
purchase the chassis first because the tank must be customized to fit the chassis.
Two bids were submitted: Lakeland Ford Truck Sales, Inc. $36,050.00
Boyer Ford Trucks, Inc. $38,597.40
RECOMMENDATION
To authorize purchase of a tanker truck chassis from Lakeland Ford Trucks, Inc. in the amount of$36,050.00
C_
Maurice H.
