Agenda Section: VI-1
CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON
Report Number: 99-277
• REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION
Report Date: December 22, 1999
ITEM DESCRIPTION:
DESIGNATION OF LEGAL NEWSPAPER
DEPT. HEAD'S APPROVAL:
MANAGERS REVIEW/RECOMMENDATION:
No comments to supplement this report it Comments attached
EXPLANATION:
As part of the Organizational Meeting each year it is necessary to designate the legal newspaper for the City.
The newspaper so selected shall be used for all legal publications, however, this designation does not
prohibit the use of other publications for press releases, ads, and legal notices if it is felt their announcement
is needed in more than one paper.
Although not having the lowest publication costs, distribution and readership of the Bulletin is considerably
higher than the Focus. Both papers are circulated throughout New Brighton at no cost to the residents,
however, the Bulletin makes individual deliveries and the Focus does specific drops. In addition, the
mulletin has historically provided more comprehensive and timely coverage of City events, issues, and
eetings than the Focus. It should also be noted that the Focus is not an officially "audited" newspaper as is
the Bulletin.
The Bulletin has always been the City of New Brighton legal newspaper.
RECOMMENDED ACTION
MOTION TO DESIGNATE LILLIE SUBURBAN NEWSPAPERS (BULLETIN)AS THE LEGAL
NEWSPAPER OF THE CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON FOR 2000.
• Matthew S. ulton, City Manager
I:ISHAR E01COU NCI OREPORTS\1999W EWSP.LEG
