lit Of l
— Report Number 12-110
Jl 1 Agenda Section VI-7
the city that works for you i Council Meeting Date May 8,2012
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION
ITEM DESCRIPTION: CONSIDERATION OF PARTIAL PAYMENT 1 OF CITY PROJECT
12-6, WATER TREATMENT PLANT #1 IRON VESSEL PLATFORM MODIFICATIONS
DEPARTMENT HEAD'S APPROVAL: mow!
CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL:
No comments to su lement this re o Comments attached
Recommendation: To authorize Parti ayment 1 for City Project 12-6, Water Treatment Plant
#1 Iron Vessel Platform Modifications to CNC Metalcraft, LLC in the amount of$51,411.50 for
this work.
Legislative History: This work was included in the 2012 annual work plan with the United
States Army.
Financial Impact: This was a planned maintenance activity and CNC Metalcraft, LLC is under
contract to complete the platform modifications for $73,445.00. Work to date represents 70% of
the original contract.
Please review the attachment from Barr for more information regarding the proposals.
Explanation: On February 14, 2012 Council authorized the installation of access stairs, access
platforms, safety gates, and conveyors to the 4 iron vessels at Water Treatment Plant #1.
Previously, the iron vessels were accessed via a permanent ladder and narrow access platform
attached to each vessel. This configuration made it difficult to lift and change the filter media in
each vessel. Media is changed twice per year. This project is a significant safety upgrade to the
water treatment plant.
Three access stairs are included in this project to provide access to the four iron filters; one
stairway to Vessel #1, a common stairway to Vessels #2 and #3, and one stairway to Vessel #4.
Two large access platforms are also included in this package; one common platform for Vessels
#2 and #3, and one platform for Vessel #4. Product conveyors will be installed to aid in lifting
the large bags of filter media to the top of the vessels for change out. Conveyors will be installed
for vessels #2, #3, and#4. Due to its location in the plant, an access platform and conveyor will
not be installed for Vessel #1. Media change out will be facilitated by lifting equipment (i.e.
scissors lift).
Costs and Funding: The total cost of this project will be funded from Fund 206 — NBCGRS
Army Water Fund.
Grant M. yffels, .
Director of Public orks
Attachment—Letter from Barr dated April 30, 2012
