April <br />Director Jacobson clarified the lump sum structure; noting that after the age of 50 retirees can <br />collect their lump sum payout. <br />'Deputy Director Paetznick reported that all firefighters are considered as a liability, even those <br />who are not vested. Mayor Jacobsen addressed the financial impact of the fund if multiple <br />firefighters retired, reporting that being fully funded, the fund could meet the demands. <br />Councilmember Burg expressed her gratitude to both Director Jacobson and Deputy Director <br />Paetznick, and requested they elaborate on the daytime response. <br />Deputy Director Paetzmck explained that the dual personnel works very well, especially during <br />the daytime hours. <br />City Manager Lotter explained that the lump sum structure is more appropriate for the City, <br />allowing more predictability. It was stated that this is <br />Councilmember Burg questioned if there is an impact on residents homeowners insurance. <br />City Manager Lotter reported that the City's ISO rating has been very favorable, and benefits <br />are already being realized on residential properties. It was reported that businesses may benefit <br />however. <br />Motion by Councilmember Samuelson seconded by Councilmember Jacobsen to approve the <br />Resolution to authorize an amendment to the New Brighton Firefighters' Relief Association <br />Bylaws to Increase the Pension Benefit Level for Firefighters by $100 to $5,700 per year of service <br />for 2012 effective 11 April 2012. <br />'4 Ayes, l Nays - Motion Carried <br />Ayes: Mayor Jacobsen, CoundOmembers Burg, Jacobsen and Samuelson <br />Nays: Councilmember Bauman <br />Commission Liaison Reports. Announcements and Updates <br />Dean Lotter <br />City Manager Lotter reminded councilmembers that the League of Minnesota Cities <br />conference will be in Duluth this summer. Director Jacobson and Deputy Director Paetznick <br />will be presenting at a mini session at the conference. <br />The Rotary will be hosting a Gold Plate Dinner on May 4th, at the Mermaid. <br />The upcoming council meeting will include a presentation from the City's IT Department <br />explaining some of the capital planning ideas at use. <br />New Brighton is the third largest revenue contributor to the Twin Cities Gateway Visitor's <br />Bureau; this allows an employee from the Hilton Homewood Suites to sit on the Board of <br />Directors, along with Manager Lotter. The Executive Director of the Board will be coming to <br />give an update to the council. <br />Gina Bauman <br />Councilmember Bauman reported that the Planning Commission met in a worksesssion to <br />review the open meeting law requirements. The cable commission will be holding a % day <br />strategic planning retreat. Interested applicants were reminded to submit the scholarship <br />application by the April 13th deadline.
