Projects scheduled for 2012 were:
• City Project 12-3, 2012 Pavement Management Program
o Tennis Courts; Schlichting stated 8 courts will be
repainted and some concrete repair. Most courts are
scheduled for overall replacement in 2022. There are
two different colors on our existing courts now. One is
terra cotta, the other is green. Others are solid green
throughout. We could stick with the different color
combinations or we could stay with a solid color. We
do not think paint color affects the price. There may
be an added cost for painting two colors. There are
variables within colors such as a dark green and a light
green. Would like to get PREC's recommendation for
choice in color.
Schlichting stated there are some vegetation and tree
issues. They shade and have things drop off onto the
court. Shade does not allow the court to dry properly
so there are mold issues on some of the courts. The
trees at Freedom are getting quite large and are
growing into the fencing. Some trees have already
been removed at Hansen between the parking lot and
the court. Silver Oaks has a hedge.
Schlichting stated he would like to get a
recommendation on this issue of vegetation growing
around the tennis courts. Freedom, Hansen and Silver
Oaks all have trees or vegetation around the court.
Wolla stated there has been trimming at Hansen. Tree
debris is falling onto the courts and the players
running on that debris causes paint to peel off. At
Freedom the shade issue(on east side) is causing mold
on the court. When it rains, the courts do not dry off as
fast as they should. It is hard on the paint and the
asphalt. Screening is bad for the tennis courts. Wolla
felt for the most part we could remove the vegetation
growing into the fence without losing the fence. Silver
Oaks would be easier because they have not been
there very long. Freedom trees/vegetation has been
there 30 years.
Schlichting said he would like to know if the
Commission wants to take the trees down, and if so,
should we replace them with anything.
Fields stated that when repairs are done, some courts
need posts to anchor down the net. Schlichting stated
he has seen center posts that have a hook that tightens
up the net in the middle. Schlichting said the courts
2
