DEPARTMENT HEAD'S APPROVAL: 'sJ CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL: AL, 7 / No comments to supplement this report Comments attached Recommendation: Accept the 4th Street NW and 12th Avenue NW Traffic Study and approve the attached Resolution ordering the installation of stop signs at the exits of the 4th Street NW and 5th Street NW Hansen Park East parking lots. Legislative History: On May 8, 2012, the City Council received a neighborhood petition and referred the traffic concerns to the Public Safety Commission(PSC). On June 25, 2012, the Public Safety Commission held a public hearing to discuss traffic related concerns on 4th Street NW and 12th Avenue NW. All regulatory signs must be approved by Resolution of the City Council. Financial Impact: N/A Explanation: The City received a neighborhood petition dated March 29, 2012 from various residents located along 12th Avenue NW near 4th Street NW. In summary,the petition states the following concerns and request written responses and action to the correct the existing traffic situation: 1. The petition states an overall general concern that there is too much traffic traveling too fast on 12th Avenue NW as a result of seasonal recreation park users. 2. The petition requests that additional signage be added at the exit from the 4th Street NW Hansen Park East parking lot. This item was presented to the Public Safety Commission by the Director of Public Works. At the conclusion of the Public Hearing, the Public Safety Commission passed a motion recommending to the City Council the following: 1. Install a stop sign at the 4th Street NW Hansen Park East parking lot exit. 2. Install a stop sign at the 5th Street NW Hansen Park East parking lot exit. 3. Remove a 6" tree at the exit of the 4th Street NW Hansen Park East parking lot to improve visibility. The items included in this motion are considered non-controversial and generally accepted as a positive response to the neighborhood's concerns. If this motion is approved at the July 10, 2012 City Council meeting,public works will install the stop signs and remove the tree. Grant M. yffels,P. .
