The Council was invited to tour the site during this timeframe as
a public meeting was posted. City Manager Lotter stated this morning he attended a meeting
discussing the future of fiber optic in the area. He viewed this utility as a necessity for future
development of the community's businesses. He was in favor of fiber optic running through
the City of New Brighton. A public and private partnership was being sought between the
County and neighboring cities. City Manager Lotter noted he attended the League of Commission Liaison
Reports,
Minnesota Cities Conference in Duluth last week, along with Mayor Jacobsen, Announcements and
Councilmembers Samuelson and Jacobsen. He was pleased with the information presented and Updates
stated he would be investigating digital packets in the near future. This item was discussed
further with the Council. City Manager Lotter mentioned he was investigating the
implementation of a C-Click Fix operation in the City to engage residents in reporting code
enforcement issues.
Gina Bauman
Councilmember Bauman reported she attended the June 19th Planning Commission meeting.
She then questioned the number of cities that needed to be supportive of the fiber optic
agreement in order to bring this to the County. Grants could not be received until the entire community was in agreement.
Further discussion ensued regarding the importance of the coming fiber optic network.
Mary Burg
Councilmember Burg thanked Andre Barte for his foresight in applying for fiber optic grants
years ago on behalf of the City of New Brighton.
