gwo city of
"ANEW
BRICK I'PON
the city that works for you
Council Worksession
July 2, 2013
5:00 pm
Present: Mayor Dave Jacobsen
Councilmember Mary Burg
Councilmember Paul Jacobsen
Councilmember Char Samuelson
Councilmember Gina Bauman
Absent:
Staff in Attendance: Dean Lotter
Guests in Attendance:
Council Policy Meeting: Council Priorities and City Manager Review Form
City Manager Lotter distributed a schedule of upcoming worksession topics, and asked the Council for their
input. Council determined not to meet the first week in August, due to National Night Out and New Brighton
Stockyard Days.
Councilmember Jacobsen suggested a meeting to discuss litigation matters, as well as updates from APi &
Pulte. Additionally it was suggested to schedule a time for an update from the Urban Farming Task Force on
October 1st. Councilmember Bauman suggested a Health Care discussion as well. Manager Lotter stated he
will plan to schedule a representative from ABG (Alliance Benefit Group) to attend the September 24th work
session. A litigation update(closed session)was added as a place holder to the October 8t meeting.
The council discussed having a liaison serve on the Urban Farming Task Force. Because a task force serves a
different purpose than a commission, it was decided not to appoint a council liaison.
Councilmember Samuelson recommended that the council not be involved with the task force. Manager Lotter
requested direction from the council regarding the task force appointees from the current commissions.
Mayor Jacobsen indicated that he has spoke with Commissioner Bruce Howard, and he would be interested in
serving on the task force. It was clarified that the task force will consist of nine members, three of them being
from the City's current commissions, and staff member Joe Hatch. The council agreed they will review
applications and conduct interviews in August. Manager Lotter indicated he will schedule an update from
Ehlers regarding the financial impacts from Pulte &APi October 22nd, in a response to councilmember
Bauman's request.
Manager Lotter reviewed the City Manager evaluation materials prepared by Craig Rapp and the process with
the council. The council agreed they would like to meet with Craig Rapp at the November 12th worksession to
wrap up the process.
Manager Lotter gave the council a brief update on the recent storm events.
The work session adjourned at 6:49 pm.
