September 10, 2013 Page 1 of 6 <br />of <br />COUNCIL PROCEEDINGS <br />C OU GS lii'WRMUN <br />the city that works for you THE CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br />Pursuant to notice thereof, a regular meeting of the New Brighton City Council was held Tuesday <br />September 10, 2013 at 6:30 pm in the New Brighton Council Chambers. <br />Present: Mayor Jacobsen, Councilmembers Samuelson, Bauman, Jacobsen and Burg <br />Absent: <br />Also Present: Dean Lotter -City Manager and Dan Maiers- Finance Director <br />Call to Order Can to order <br />Mayor Jacobsen called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm. <br />Public Comment Forum <br />Mayor Jacobsen opened the Public Forum for comments from the public. <br />Kristie Kelllis, Lost Boys Farms, presented the Council with the most recent copy of farms <br />newsletter. <br />Bruce Knight, 50 — 32nd Ave NW, discussed the 2014 budget. He commended the Council for <br />keeping expenditures down over the past several years, but encouraged the Council to further <br />reduce expenses while increasing productivity. He explained how this was being done by the <br />private sector and recommended this also be considered by the public sector. He then <br />reviewed the Public Safety Department's budget and provided several comparisons to <br />neighboring communities. Mr. Knight stated New Brighton residents were spending twice as <br />much on public safety as Arden Hills and Shoreview residents.
