Report Number 13-241
ffivdtirroN Agenda Section VI-4
the city that works for you Council Meeting Date October 22, 2013
REQUEST FOR COUNCIL
CONSIDERATION
ITEM DESCRIPTION: Acceptance of Donation From Village Orthodontics
DEPARTMENT HEAD'S APPROVAL: Sandy Breuer,Director of Parks and Recreation
CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL:
No comments to supplement this report Comments attached
Recommendation:
Waive the reading and adopt the resolution accepting the 2013 donation of$300 from Village
Orthodontics to help fund the Missouri Gravel Bed Project in New Brighton.
Legislative History:
None
Financial Impact:
These donations are important to the New Brighton Forestry Department. These funds will be
used to help restock the Missouri Gravel Bed with new bare root trees for the 2014 season.
Explanation:
In 2013 the City of New Brighton built and maintained a Missouri Gravel Bed. This is a tree
nursery for bare root trees. In 2013 sixty-six trees, of different varieties, were purchased, placed
in the gravel bed to grow, and later planted on boulevards, parks and other city properties.
Village Orthodontics removed seven pine trees on their property and did not want to plant any
trees back due to sight line issues. In lieu of planting replacement trees they agreed to donate to
help fund the gravel bed. In 2014 we intend to purchase more trees and continue with this
process throughout the City of New Brighton. With Emerald Ash Borer's arrival in Minnesota
and the general loss of trees due to storms or other tree failures, we feel this is very important to
maintain and replenish our urban forest.
Costs and Funding:
None
//47/19
Chris Wolla
Park Superintendent
DonatonfromV illageOrthodontics2.013,doc
