October 8, 2013 Page 2 of 3 5 Ayes, 0 Nays - Motion Carried Commission Minutes Mayor Jacobsen received the following minutes on behalf of the City: Public Safety Commission minutes from June 24, 2013. Special Order of Business 1. Update from Ramsey County Sheriff Matt Bostrom Ramsey County Sheriff Matt Bostrom thanked the Council for their time. He highlighted the events taking place in Ramsey County. He explained Sheriff s Deputies were kept busy with court orders, warrants, detention of prisoners and court security. In addition to these efforts the County also provided water patrol, crime scene and canine services in Ramsey County. The mission of the Ramsey County Sheriff s Department was reviewed He commented the Sheriff s Department manages 9,000 warrants at any given time and online warrant searches were now available to assist with managing this task. It was noted the County was working to improve its crime scene processing and joint training was offered to local departments. The benefits of the Code Red notification program were discussed. He discussed the Annual Fright Farm that was open Friday and Saturday evenings in October by the Ramsey County Sheriff s Department All were invited to attend. Councilmember Bauman asked if the County has seen an increase in the number of permit to cant' requests. Ramsey County ShenffBostrom stated there has been a dramatic increase in the number of pe=t to carry requests, along with the permit to purchase requests over the past two years. Councilmember Jacobsen and Councilmember Samuelson thanked SheriffBostrom for the report this evening. Further discussion ensued regarding a recent Code Red event in the City of New Brighton.
