Picauitation of Life <br /> Saving Awards for Public <br /> City Manager Lotter indicated Public Safety Director Jacobson would be presenting several life saving <br /> Safetyresponders. Report <br /> awards this evening for an event that occurred on July 21st. No.13-251. <br /> Public Safety Director Jacobson discussed a 911 call that was received by Ramsey County Emergency <br /> Communications on July 21'1regarding a vehicle that had gone off the road into Freedom Park at 2121 141" <br /> Street The caller indicated that the driver of the vehicle was not breathing. The caller was transferred to <br /> Allina Health Emergency Medical Services dispatcher Anton Fahrenbach for pre-arnval instructions. Police <br /> officers and medics were simultaneously dispatched to the scene. He explained that Officer McNeely, <br /> Sergeant Masterman and Officer Voeller arrived on scene to find George Mattson not breathing and had no <br /> pulse. The officers immediately began life saving procedures to include CPR and administered oxygen. An <br /> automatic external defibrillator(AED)was deployed,with a shock recommended and delivered to Mr. <br /> Mattson. Shortly thereafter,Mr.Mattson regained breathing and a pulse. Allina Medics,including Ryan <br /> Dougherty and Joseph Gottwaldt arrived on scene and began administering Advanced Life Support. Mr. <br /> Mattson was transported to Abbott Northwestern Hospital where emergency room staff continued their <br /> successful efforts to save Mr.Mattson's life. Mr.Mattson has since recovered and was present this evening <br /> with his family. <br /> Dr.Paul Satterlee,Allina Medical,was proud of the first responders in New Brighton and the training each <br /> member of the department has. He indicated these well-trained officers and medics were saving lives in the <br /> community. <br /> Public Safety Director Jacobson thanked the caller,dispatchers,each officer and medic for their actions taken <br /> on July 21 s and presented each of them with a life saving award. A round of applause was offered by all in <br /> attendance. <br /> George Mattson thanked Officer Kathy McNeely for her prompt response and actions after his accident, <br /> along with the individuals who called 911.
