Jacobson, Director of Public Safety <br />CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL: <br />No comments to supplement this report Comments attached <br />Recommendation: Accept the 2013 National Night Out 1St Place Award on behalf of the <br />Residents and Businesses of the City of New Brighton. <br />Legislative History: None <br />Explanation: On August 6t", 2013 the residents and businesses of the City of New Brighton <br />came together to celebrate the community and "give crime a going away party" and participate <br />on National Night Out. The Public Safety Department coordinated the activities which included <br />over 128 neighborhood parties. As part of NNO activities the Public Safety Department <br />requested neighborhoods collect school supplies, backpacks, and food on behalf of the Ralph <br />Reeder Food Shelf to ensure every child in the City has the necessary tools to be successful in <br />life. As a result of this effort 2,182 pounds of school supplies, 3,811 pounds of food, and 196 <br />backpacks were donated and distributed to members of the community in need. <br />Due to the efforts of our residents as well as the generosity of our business partners including <br />Cub Foods, Amy Wakem State Farm Insurance, the New Brighton Community Center, and <br />Target, out of 16,124 communities that participated in NNO for 2013, the City of New Brighton <br />was awarded the 1St Place Award in the Nation for our National Night Out activities for 2013. <br />This is the third time the City has received this prestigious national award and merely reinforces <br />what a great community New Brighton is. <br />Trevor Hamdorf <br />Crime Prevention Officer <br />1ACOUNCIUREPORTS \2014Tublic Safety \NNO 2013 Award Acceptance doc <br />
