December 10, 2013 Page 5 of 6 <br />improvements to ensure there are fewer water and sewer line breaks. <br />Mayor Jacobsen thanked staff for the thorough report this evening and for providing a detailed <br />account that justified the proposed rate increases. <br />Motion by Councilmember Burg, seconded by Councilmember Samuelson to waive the reading and <br />adopt a Resolution establishing the 2014 utility rates and charges. <br />5 Ayes, 0 Nays - Motion Carried <br />Commission Liaison Reports, Announcements and Updates <br />Dean Lotter <br />City Manager Lotter thanked the Council for a great 2013. He was pleased with the teamwork <br />accomplished between staff and the City Council. He looked forward to all that would be <br />completed in 2014. He discussed a letter the City received from Representative McCollum and <br />noted this matter would be further discussed by the Council in January 2014. <br />Gina Bauman <br />Councilmember Bauman discussed that item discussed at the recent Public Safety Commission <br />meeting. She reported on December 3rd it was announced that New Brighton received 1St Place <br />for the city of its size for National Night Out. She congratulated Officer Hamdorf. She <br />explained this was the City's third win. An award would be presented to the Council in <br />January 2014. She reported Officer McNeally was supervising the Santa Cop program again <br />this year. She encouraged the community to get involved in this great program. She thanked <br />the fire fighters for ringing bells at Cub Foods and discussed the positive outcome of the "Tip a <br />Cop" event that took place at Champs. She reported the Cable Commission met this past week <br />and informal negotiations continue. She thanked the Council and staff for all of their hard <br />work and dedication to the City. She wished everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New <br />Year. <br />Paul Jacobsen <br />Councilmember Jacobsen reported there would be no EDC meeting in December. He <br />congratulated the Public Safety Department for their efforts and achievements from National <br />Night Out. He wished all New Brighton residents, his fellow Councilmembers and staff Happy <br />Holidays. He looked forward to all that would be accomplished in 2014. <br />Char Samuelson <br />Councilmember Samuelson thanked the Council and staff for their commitment to the City. <br />She noted the Park and Rec Commission would not meet in December. She explained the next <br />meeting was scheduled for January 15, 2014. <br />Mary Burk <br />Councilmember Burg reported the Planning Commission would not meet in December. She <br />wished everyone a happy and safe holiday season. She explained it had been an honor to work <br />with Councilmember Samuelson over the years. <br />Mayor Jacobsen <br />Mayor Jacobsen reported he would have a report from Representative McCollum in January. <br />He thanked staff and the Council for the excellent work conducted in 2013.
