Appn ved
A member asked if this would preclude her to till up her entire yard for a rose garden and sprayed pesticides, but did this
for personal use and did not sell the roses. Ms. Gundlach responded this might or might not fit into offensive behavior.
She was only using what she said as examples and not what was or would actually occur.
Chair Howard stated the question was if they wanted to have staff do more with this than what they were doing today,
they would agree to regulation and discuss what regulation meant later.
A member stated if they encouraged best practices, would that open the door to a possible legal issue.
It was the consensus of the Task Force to continue discussion of the sale of produce /CSAs and discuss this again at a later
date.
Mr. Hatch stated with respect to larger animals, this was something they got at the public comment forum or seen in the
written comments. He stated this could relate to horses, goats, cows, or pigs, etc. He stated they did have some
regulations on this, but maybe this needed more regulation or needed to be looked at again.
A member asked if there were any issues with large animals.
Chair Howard asked what the current regulation was. Ms. Gundlach summarized the regulation.
Mr. Hatch stated he had been in an apartment with a potbelly pig and there was a cougar kept in the City at one time, but
this was years ago.
Ms. Gundlach stated a cougar was an exotic animal and Council had already said that was not an issue at this time and
if /when it occurred it would be handled at that time.
Chair Howard asked if today a person could have as many goats on their property as they wanted.
• member stated if this became an issue in the future, it could be looked at at that time.
• member asked if they wanted to address this now or just leave it as it was.
It was the consensus of the Task Force to leave this as status quo.
Mr. Hatch stated with respect to garden structures, greenhouses the current status was if this was a structure it needed to
meet a setback. He stated this would apply to a substantial greenhouse and not a raised bed.
A member asked what happened if this was a temporary structure. Ms. Gundlach stated they had one greenhouse that
they deemed to be a structure and this applied to seasonal structures also and would need to meet the setback requirement.
She stated they also had a coop that was constructed which people did not like the way it looked, but it met the setback.
Mr. Hatch stated these structures needed to meet setback and be in the backyard or side yard as long as it was 30 feet off
of the front property line.
Ms. Gundlach stated many times they did not know when things went up and they relied on the neighbors to tell them.
It was the consensus of the Task Force to leave raised bed/greenhouses as status quo.
Mr. Hatch stated with respect to bees there was no regulation right now.
A member asked if there had been complaints or issues regarding bees. Mr. Hatch responded there had only been one
complaint, which was resolved right away.
6
