Public Safety Commission <br />February 24, 2014 <br />Attending: Commissioner Allen, Commissioner Benke, Commissioner Donohue, <br />Commissioner Hollimon, Commissioner Kerns, Commissioner Kocon, <br />Commissioner Kroll, Commissioner Lamp, Commissioner Schumann, <br />Commissioner Woods, Deputy Director Paetznick, Council Member <br />Bauman, Mr. Grant Wyffels (Director of Public Works), and Ms. Renee <br />Rosenberg (Allina Health) <br />Absent: N/A <br />Call to Order /Roll Call <br />Commissioner Allen called the February meeting to order at 6:30 pm and roll call was taken. <br />November Meeting Minutes <br />The November meeting minutes were reviewed. Commissioner'Woods made a motion to <br />approve the November meeting minutes; Commissioner Hollimon seconded. Motion carried. <br />Public Hearing/Presentation <br />A. Crosswalk Study — Grant Wyffels, Public Works Director <br />Mr. Grant Wyffels, Director of Public Works, referenced a November 26th Council report <br />regarding a citywide crosswalk study. The recommendation from this Council report is to <br />involve the Public Safety Commission for consideration and - policy guidance as well as to review <br />and to make recommendations on implementing the outcomes of the study. <br />Mr. Wyffels also distributed a map of known City crosswalks as well as a copy of a template <br />which will be used to collect data for each crosswalk. Mr. Wyffels stated he will also use a <br />MNDOT guide, which was just received, for reference. <br />After discussion, Mr. Wyffels stated he felt this will be a beneficial exercise to go thru. The <br />annual Neighborhood meetings will -be starting next Thursday so Mr. Wyffels and the <br />Commission felt this would be a good forum for Mr. Wyffels to make a brief announcement <br />regarding city crosswalks and the upcoming study. It was decided that all feedback needs to go <br />through Mr. Wyffels. <br />Commissioner Berke made a motion to recommend to Council to proceed with the safety study <br />and involve public input to capture existing as well as other possible locations of public concern; <br />Commissioner Kroll seconded.
