Jacobson, Director of Public Safety CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL: No comments to supplement this report 1 4 Comments attached Recommendation: Ask that Mayor Jacobsen on behalf of the City Council present Sergeant Andrew J. Masterman with a Plaque of Appreciation for his retirement after 26 years of service to the City of New Brighton. Legislative History: N/A Explanation: Sgt. Andy Masterman began his career with New Brighton on February 3, 1988 as a Police Officer. Sgt. Masterman has served this Agency in numerous ways to include as a field training officer, Police Reserve liaison, supervisor of the Community Service Officers, traffic accident reconstructionist, liaison to the Ramsey County Chaplains Corps, and becoming certified as an Emergency Manager. He has served in supervisory capacities to include as a Corporal and was promoted to Sergeant on July 1, 2001 having trained and supervised scores of police officers and civilian staff during this more than 26 years of dedicated public service. Sgt. Masterman has received several awards and recognitions to include a Special Commendation for his role in rescuing victims in a burning bus in 2008, traffic safety officer of the year in 2011, a commendation for his response to an officer involved shooting, and a lifesaving award with a second award pending. Per the City Employee policy /handbook section 33.3, staff members who resign and /or retire with more than 20 years of service will receive a plaque or other award to recognize their service.
