Proclamation Recognimg Park and Actin City Manager Jacobson explained Parks and Recreation Director Breuer would be presenting this Acting ty anag xp P g Recreation Month in the City of New Brighton item to the Council. ReportNo.14 -156. Parks and Recreation Director Breuer stated July was Parks and Recreation month in the City of New Brighton. She discussed the outdoor celebrations and free activities planned throughout the community and encouraged residents to get involved. It was noted that further information regarding the activities was available on the City's website. Mayor Jacobsen read a proclamation in full declaring the month of July to be Park and Recreation month in the City of New Brighton. 2. Acting City Manager Jacobsen indicated Assistant to the City Manger Johnson and IT Administrator Barte ReportNo.14 -157. would be presenting this item to Council. Assistant to the City Manager Johnson discussed with the Council the challenges and accomplishments of the ` IT staff in 2013. IT Administrator Barte continued the discussion by providing the Council with a presentation on how the department approaches problems. It was noted the IT department has two staff members that monitor 160 computers, 30 printers, 70 cell phones, 19 iPads, 25 virtual servers with 13 terabytes of data, and an internal network backup system. The IT department also arranges for the broadcast of Council and Planning Commission meetings. He reviewed how the City's computer systems would be upgraded to Windows 7. He described how virtual LAN's have been created to improve security within the City's computer systems. The changeover and functions of the Mitel phone system were discussed. The 2014 goals were reviewed in detail with the Council. Councilmember Jacobsen thanked the IT department for their efforts. He questioned if the IT department had any major issues that would need to be addressed in the neat year or two. IT Administrator Barte anticipated that the Finance Department's software would need to be upgraded in the next year, which would impact the City's financial operations. Councilmember Burg appreciated the presentation and the continued efficiencies that the IT department strives to achieve. Councilmember Bauman appreciated the cost savings the IT department had created and was also impressed by the increased security that has been created. Consent Agenda Consent A¢enda 1.
