She discussed the outdoor celebrations and free activities planned throughout the community and <br />encouraged residents to get involved. It was noted that further information regarding the activities was <br />available on the City's website. <br />Mayor Jacobsen read a proclamation in full declaring the month of July to be Park and Recreation month in <br />the City of New Brighton. <br />2. Report No.14 -157. <br />2013 Year in Review <br />Power Point Presentation. <br />Acting City Manager Jacobsen indicated Assistant to the City Manger Johnson and IT Administrator Barte <br />ReportNo.14 -157. <br />would be presenting this item to Council. <br />Assistant to the City Manager Johnson discussed with the Council the challenges and accomplishments of the ` <br />IT staff in 2013. <br />IT Administrator Barte continued the discussion by providing the Council with a presentation on how the <br />department approaches problems. It was noted the IT department has two staff members that monitor 160 <br />computers, 30 printers, 70 cell phones, 19 iPads, 25 virtual servers with 13 terabytes of data, and an internal <br />network backup system. The IT department also arranges for the broadcast of Council and Planning <br />Commission meetings. He reviewed how the City's computer systems would be upgraded to Windows 7. <br />He described how virtual LAN's have been created to improve security within the City's computer systems. <br />The changeover and functions of the Mitel phone system were discussed. The 2014 goals were reviewed in <br />detail with the Council. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen thanked the IT department for their efforts. He questioned if the IT department had <br />any major issues that would need to be addressed in the neat year or two. IT Administrator Barte anticipated <br />that the Finance Department's software would need to be upgraded in the next year, which would impact the <br />City's financial operations. <br />Councilmember Burg appreciated the presentation and the continued efficiencies that the IT department <br />strives to achieve. <br />Councilmember Bauman appreciated the cost savings the IT department had created and was also impressed <br />by the increased security that has been created. <br />Consent Agenda <br />Consent A¢enda <br />1.
