city (4
vi NFL'
BRIO IT ON
the city that a nr'S far you
Memo
To: Janice Gundlach, City Planner
From: Sandy Breuer, Parks and Recreation Director
Subject: Parking Potential Issues - Subway Date: October October 10, 2012
The Parks and Recreation Department is excited about the opportunity for
Subway to open a franchise operation within the New Brighton Community
Center. Staff is very supportive of this kiosk type restaurant. The Subway kiosk
will maximize available space and provide foodservice capabilities.
In 2011 the Community Center recorded 386,000 visitors. The Eagles Nest at the
New Brighton Community Center is a regional draw. On Saturdays during the
busiest months of the year the community center hosts up to 20 birthday parties.
With the addition of Ramsey County Library, an additional 100,000 users have
entered the facility. A food establishment in the community center would be a
welcomed addition to our already established customer base and their guests.
Parks and Recreation staff has worked directly with Subway to provide space
within the community center. Subway has provided the City of New Brighton with
design plans for the new franchise (see attached).
Parking has been brought forth as a potential issue.
Parking:
In 2011, Ramsey County Library became a tenant in the facility. At this time
parking was reviewed and the over-flow lot on the south side of the facility was
expanded. Currently the community center has 297 parking stalls, including 8
handicap stalls. The location and breakdown of these parking stalls is outlined
below:
West Lot: 59 stalls
South Lot: 25 stalls (6 handicap)
Over-Flow Lot: 91 stalls
East Lot: 115 stalls (2 handicap)
North Alley: 7 stalls
297 Total
