Presentation from Sheriff Matt Bostrom. <br />Sheriff Bostrom thanked the COlUlcil for their time. He discussed how the Sheriff's Department fit with the <br />City's Public Safety Department and came along side to assist and support the City's law enforcement efforts. <br />He discussed the recent joint training event that was held in New Brighton He enjoyed the partnership <br />Ramsey County had with New Brighton and thanked the Council for purchasing the new records <br />management system. He discussed the numerous benefits of the new system. He encouraged the public to <br />tum in their unused prescription drugs to the Sheriff's Department and they will be disposed of properly. He <br />invited all to attend the Fright Fann at the Ramsey County Fair Grounds every weekend in October. <br />Mayor Jacobsen reported there has been a great deal of drug activity in the park near his home. He asked if <br />marijuana use led to other drug use. Sheriff Bostrom explained this was the case for some, while early <br />tobacco use was a significant factor for others. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen asked what the l1llYor focuses for the Sheriff's Department were at this time. <br />Sheriff Bostrom stated heroin and opiate drug use were concerns for the department, while residents were <br />highly concerned with speeding cars and traffic safety. <br />Councilmember Strub thanked Sheriff Bostrom for his attendance this evening. He appreciated Sheriff <br />Bostrom's leadership, partnership and dedication to the Ramsey County. <br />Councilmember Bmg asked when and where residents could tmn in their unused prescription drugs. Sheriff <br />Bostrom stated any unused prescriptions could be brought to the comer ofHamline Avenue and Highway 96 <br />in Arden Hills, Monday through Friday during business hours. Another drop-off site was located downtown <br />at the Law Enforcement Center at 425 Grove Street <br />Councilmember Bauman thanked Sheriff Bostrom for his report and appreciated his partnership with the City <br />of New Brighton. <br />2. Acceptance of Donations for National Night Out. Report 14-235. <br />City Manager Lotter stated Crime Prevention Officer Trevor Hamdorf would be presenting this item to the <br />Council. <br />Crime Prevention Officer Hamdorf stated on Tuesday, August 5th the City of New Brighton coordinated <br />National Night Out activities throughout the community to celebrate the community coming together to make <br />the community stronger. As a part of the National Night Out efforts the Public Safety Department asked <br />residents to donate food and school supplies in an effort to ensure that all children in the City have the tools <br />necessary to be successful in school. As a result of the tremendous outpouring of generosity through the City, <br />5,036 pounds of food, 1,514 pounds of school supplies and $1,019 were collected. The donations have <br />assisted over 860 students so far this year. To ensure proper transfer of the donations to the Mounds View <br />School District he requested the Council fonnally accept the donations and transfer them to the Mounds View <br />School District <br />Lisa Baker, Ralph Reeder Food Shelf, appreciated the City's generosity from National Night Out as the food <br />shelf was in need during the summer months. <br />Councilmember Bmg thanked Ms .
