�' Report Number 14 -264 <br />Agenda Section VI -5 <br />the city that works Council Meeting Date October 28, 2014 <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL CONSIDERATION <br />ITEM DESCRIPTION: AUTHORIZE THE INSTALLATION OF SHARED USE TRAIL <br />SIGNS ALONG THE WEST SIDE OF OLD HIGHWAY 8 NW FROM I -694 TO PARK DRIVE. <br />DEPARTMENT HEAD'S APPROVAL: <br />CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL: <br />No comments to supplement this report Comments attached <br />Recommendation: Authorize the installation of "Shared Use Trail" signs along the west side of Old <br />Highway 8 NW from I -694 to Park Drive. <br />Legislative History: This item was discussed at the October 1, 2014 PREC Meeting. <br />Financial Impact: N/A <br />Explanation: This past summer, staff received several complaints from the local bicycle community <br />about the existing concrete trail located along the west side of Old Highway 8 NW. The concern was <br />bicyclists do not feel comfortable riding on the concrete surface since it feels like a sidewalk. <br />To alleviate these concerns, staff proposes to add simple signage indicating the concrete surface is a trail <br />to be shared by both pedestrians and bicyclists. Refer to the attached map for the proposed locations to <br />add signage. <br />This item is considered non - controversial and generally accepted as a positive response to the concerns <br />raised by bicyclists.
