r <br />1;i ey HON <br />the city that works for you <br />REQUEST FOR COUNCIL <br />CONSIDERATION <br />Report Number <br />Agenda Section <br />Council Meeting Date <br />14 -297 <br />V -1 <br />December 9, 2014 <br />ITEM DESCRIPTION: Acceptance of Monetary and Tangible Donations from Dairy Queen in <br />2014. <br />DEPARTMENT HEAD'S APPROVAL: Sandy Breuer, Director of <br />CITY MANAGER'S APPROVAL: <br />No comments to supplement this <br />Comments attached <br />Recreation <br />Recommendation: <br />Waive the reading and adopt the resolution accepting monetary scholarship donations from Dairy <br />Queen, 409 Old Highway 8 NW, New Brighton, MN in the amount of $809.08 and also other <br />tangible donations benefitting program participants in the New Brighton Parks & Recreation <br />Department. <br />Legislative History: <br />The New Brighton Parks and Recreation Department has partnered with Tim Larson, of the <br />Dairy Queen at 409 Old Highway 8 NW, New Brighton, MN since 2011. Each of the last four <br />years, the Dairy Queen has donated to the City scholarship fund to help residents with the cost <br />for Parks and Recreation programs. <br />The Dairy Queen donations to the scholarship fund the past 4 years amounts to $3,699.90. The <br />average scholarship given is about $30. This equates to the Dairy Queen contributing to nearly <br />125 scholarships. <br />Financial Impact: <br />The scholarship donations are important to New Brighton youth and families who may not be <br />able to register for Parks and Recreation programs without this financial assistance. <br />Tangible donations have benefitted the New Brighton Parks and Recreation programs. These <br />donations are as follows: <br />• $227.50 for 1000 wristbands good for a $1.00 off blizzard after playtime. <br />• 200 free mini blizzard coupons for aquatics /programs /staff training. <br />• 1000 coaches /managers /instructors IVP 5 free medium blizzard punch cards with free <br />water bottle refills of Power Aide or water. <br />• 50% off light smoothie or $1.00 off Orange Julius purchases for NBCC members. <br />• 325 blizzards for the end -of- season youth soccer ice cream social. <br />• DQ distributes Parks and Recreation coupons to DQ customers and Parks and Recreation <br />distributes DQ coupons to Parks and Recreation customers. <br />• Delivery of B -Day Cakes $30, or Mini Blizzards $2 each for Birthday Party Packages. <br />Explanation: <br />L\COUNCIL\REPORTS \2014Tub and Recreation \12 09 14 \Donation &omDairyQueen2014 doc <br />
