December 2, 2014 Page 1 of 3 <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />Pursuant to notice thereof, a 2015 Budget Hearing of the New Brighton City Council was held <br />Tuesday December 2, 2014 at 6:30 pm in the New Brighton Council Chambers. <br /> <br />Present: Mayor Jacobsen, Councilmembers Bauman, Burg, Jacobsen and Strub <br /> <br />Absent: <br /> <br />Also Present: Dean Lotter-City Manager and Brenda Davitt- Finance Director <br /> <br /> <br />Call to Order <br />Mayor Jacobsen called the meeting to order at 6:30 pm. <br /> <br />Pledge of Allegiance <br />Mayor Jacobsen led the Council in the Pledge of Allegiance. <br /> <br />2015 Budget Hearing <br />City Manager Lotter stated Staff has a presentation for Council this evening. After the <br />presentation, a budget hearing would be held. <br />Finance Director Davitt explained that in September, the Council approved the preliminary <br />levy and notices were sent to property owners in the City. She welcomed the residents present <br />and noted the purpose of the hearing this evening was to discuss the proposed 2015 budget, <br />while also informing the taxpayers of the proposed 2015 property tax levies. She indicated the <br />goals of the budget were as follows: <br /> Provide those services that are desired by the community. <br /> Provide services to community in most cost effective manner. <br /> Maintain the delivery of high quality services. <br /> Plan for future of the community. <br /> Provide for City’s infrastructure and capital needs. <br /> Ensure the City’s long-term financial stability. <br /> <br />Finance Director Davitt provided a budget overview and noted the Council has worked to <br />minimize the tax levy while still meeting citizens’ needs and budget goals. She reviewed the <br />proposed expenditures and general fund revenues in further detail and noted expenditures have <br />been fairly constant since 2007. The proposed 2015 levy was $6,925,000, which was a 1.92% <br />increase over 2014. She then discussed how the levy would impact property values in New <br />Brighton. It was noted the median value single family home increased 6.2%. The Council <br />would be approving the final 2015 tax levies and budgets on Tuesday, December 9th at their <br />regular meeting at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers.
