1333 12th Ave NW Executive Summary

Family History & Narrative

The Eck family: Wayne, Debbie, Adam, Paul, and Jason have resided on 12th Avenue
NW since 1983. Many of our family memories have been built around our
neighborhood, schools, and Long Lake. All three sons are graduates of New Brighton
Schools and have worked summers for the City of New Brighton Parks and Forestry
Departments for a total of fifteen years while attending school. Our intent is to provide
the same opportunities and experiences to our next generation families.

Since the Eck family are not developers, our goal is to create family homes for the three
sons that fit into the existing neighborhood while working with our neighbors as much as
possible to address any concerns they may have. We lived through two new home
constructions on 12th Avenue (Hansen & Schweitzer) and are aware that as long time
neighbors we need to insure that our construction causes the least amount of disruption
and inconvenience to our neighbors. Living next door to the new homes means we will be
there and able to monitor the project to minimize impact on the neighborhood.

Long Lake has been an important part of our lives and we have proven our stewardship of
the lake by participating in the development of Long Lake Regional Park, participating in
water quality meetings, as well as being active in the Long Lake Homeowners
Association. As a family, we have participated in the annual lake clean up with our
neighbors for many years. From this ongoing stewardship commitment, we agree to meet
all of Rice Creek Watershed District standards while building our homes.

Project Specifics

In the summer of 2012, Carol Finley informed the Ecks that they had a purchase
agreement with a developer to sell the land. The development plan was to build seven
homes on the Finley property. The Ecks decided to purchase the property to control
development and the Finleys readily agreed knowing we loved the lake as they did. The
total land area is approximately five acres including the current Eck home at 1321 12th
Avenue NW. The proposal would divide the land into four lots: three lakeside and one
facing 13th Street. This plan would result in the existing home having to be removed. The
new homes constructed will be full walkouts as shown in the plat. This plan would extend
12th Avenue NW north with the construction of a cul-de-sac. Road/utility work would
begin as soon as possible after final plat approval and weather permitting. The
construction of the homes would begin once excavation/grading for utilities and roadway
are substantially complete.
