Present: <br />Absent: <br />Mayor Dave Jacobsen <br />IP& BRIGE-IT'CN <br />the city that works for you <br />Council Worksession <br />March 10,2015 <br />5:00 pm <br />Council member Gina Bauman <br />Councilmember Brian Strub <br />Council member Paul Jacobsen <br />Councilmember Mary Burg <br />Staff in Attendance: Dean Lotter, Terri Haarstad <br />Guests in Attendance: Jeff Anderson, Abe McEathron, Vivian Neumann-Walker, Saeed Bihi, Bruce Knight, <br />Graeme Allen, Steve Danger, Bill Kerns, Robert Allen, Megan Eischen, Cindy Ketola, Linda Zelm, Ken <br />Schumann and Brandon Stenglein <br />Interview ommission Applicant and Select Applicants <br />The Council asked a series of questions to perspective applicants. <br />Councilmember Burg asked the first question and wondered what were the three most important <br />responsibilities of an advisory commission member to the community. <br />Mr. Anderson believed public involvement to be important, along with volunteering time in the community. <br />He believed this to be everyone's civic duty. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen asked why Mr. Anderson believed he would be a good person to represent the <br />opinions and concerns of the City. <br />Mr. Anderson stated he was a fresh face and was newly retired. He talks to a lot of people and has a degree <br />from the U of M in psychology, with a minor in criminology. <br />Councilmember Strub requested Mr. Anderson describe the contact he has had with the New Brighton Public <br />Safety Department. <br />Mr. Anderson stated he has lived in New Brighton since he was first married. He has observed the public <br />safety department but has not had a great deal of interaction with the department. <br />Councilmember Bauman requested further comment on the training, education and experience that Mr. <br />Anderson had that would be valuable to the Public Safety Commission. <br />Mr. Anderson indicated he had a criminology minor and was only several hours away from becoming a police <br />officer. He listed several police officers that were his friends. <br />Mayor Jacobsen questioned what motivated Mr. Anderson to apply for the open position on the Public Safety <br />Commission.
