Linda Zelm stated the Exchange was still being developed and there were still opportunities for commercial <br />development in the City. She understood that the EDC was to advise on commercial and industrial <br />opportunities. She asked if the EDC should also be making determinations on housing. <br />COllncilmember Burg believed the EDC would be addressing this matter with the Council at the joint meeting <br />scheduled for March 18th• <br />Councilmember Burg asked why Ken was interested in continuing his service with the City. <br />Ken Schumann stated he enjoyed serving the community. He believed he provided a different point of view. <br />Councilmember Burg asked the first question and wondered what were the three most important <br />responsibilities of an advisory commission member to the community. <br />Brandon Stenglein stated he grew up in New Brighton and has previously worked at Bel Air. He indicated he <br />now works for the City of Mounds View. He indicated he utilizes the City's parks and wanted to bring some <br />fresh ideas to the City. He wanted to give back. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen asked why he would be a good person to represent the opinions and concerns of the <br />City. <br />Mr. Stenglein stated he has an engineer background, which applies to infrastructure and trails. <br />Councilmember Strub requested Mr. Stenglein describe the contact he has had with the City's park and <br />recreational programs or facilities. <br />Mr. Stenglein stated he has played on softball teams in New Brighton in the City's parks. He stated he lives <br />two blocks from Hanson Park and walks there often with his daughter. He also enjoyed visiting Long Lake <br />Park. <br />Council member Bauman questioned how Brandon would handle a request where a group of residents were <br />divided on a park situation. <br />Mr. Stenglein stated that he would have to hear from staff, the residents involved and would then consider the <br />long-tenn view for the City. <br />Mayor Jacobsen questioned what issues Mr. Stenglein saw that the City had with its parks and recreation. <br />Mr. Stenglein explained Hanson Park trails were in need of maintenance. <br />Councilmember Bauman asked if Mr. Stenglein had any questions for the Council. <br />Mr. Stenglein asked when PREC meetings were held. <br />Councilmember Strub noted PREC met on the first Wednesday of each month at 6:30 p.m. He noted the group <br />met nine or ten times each year. <br />The Council thanked Brandon for his time and interest in serving the City of New Brighton. <br />Worksession adjourned at 6:16 pm.
