Commissioner Erickson inquired how existing privacy fences would be handled by the Ordinance. Planning <br />Director Gundlach reported that these fences would be grandfathered in. <br />Chairperson Howard asked if the privacy fencing could be addressed through the variance process. Planning <br />Director Gundlach discussed variance law and indicated this would not be the correct course of action. <br />Commissioner Deick suggested that fencing only be allowed 50% of the distance from homes to the shore and it <br />must be a minimum of 25 feet from the first 3 %2 feet. Planning Director Gundlach commented this could be <br />reviewed by staff further and indicated she would seek comment from the City Attorney. <br />Commissioner Deick questioned when staff began work on the Shoreland Ordinance. Planning Director <br />Gundlach reported a resident brought a shoreland concern to the City in the fall of 2013 and the Council <br />directed staff to begin working on a draft Shoreland Ordinance in early 2014. <br />Commissioner Danger requested further information regarding rip -rap. Planning Director Gundlach discussed <br />rip -rap further with the Commission. <br />Commissioner Danger encouraged staff to review the shoreland requirements for Turtle Lake and other metro <br />area lakes. He was grateful that the Commission was willing to investigate the fencing Ianguage further. <br />Planning Director Gundlach appreciated the comments from the Commission this evening. She then discussed <br />the proposed timeline and future steps for the Shoreland Ordinance.
