October 13, 201; Page 6 of 7 <br />Councilmember Burg was pleased that the proposed improvements would bring the City Hall bathrooms into <br />ADA compliance. <br />Motion by Councilmember Burg, seconded by Councilmember Jacobsen to authorize the City <br />Manager to sign the lease agreement with the Minnesota Chiefs of Police Association and <br />Upper Midwest Community Policing Institute. <br />5 Ayes, 0 Nays -Motion Carried <br />Commission Liaison Reports, Announcements and )dates <br />Dean Lotter <br />City Manager Lotter reported the Public Safety Commission previously had a high school <br />liaison member. There was interest in this position and the Public Safety Commission was <br />seeking Council support. The Council was in support of this recommendation. <br />City Manager Lotter provided comment on a sewer and ponding improvement that was needed <br />at Hanson Park. He reported the CenturyLink franchise was recently approved by the Cable <br />Commission. The next step would be for the member cities to review and approve the <br />franchise. He commented team DX would be meeting next week at City Hall to discuss a <br />pilot program for the treatment of the City's water. <br />Brian Strub <br />Councilmember Strub reported the Public Safety Commission met on September 28th. He was <br />not in attendance at this meeting, but reviewed notes of the items discussed at the meeting. He <br />reviewed the number of marathons that Public Safety members have participated in and <br />congratulated these members for their achievements. FIe indicated a Fire Division Open 1-Iouse <br />would be held on October 26th at the Public Safety Building. All members of the public were <br />invited to attend this event. He requested that veteran's be in attendance at the City Council <br />meeting on November I Oth to lead the Pledge of Allegiance. It was noted the next Blood Drive <br />would be held on November 4`h. <br />Gina Bauman <br />Councilmember Bauman stated she was not able to attend the October 7th EDC meeting. She <br />reviewed the items discussed by the group noting the main focus was business expansion and <br />retention. She indicated the Cable Commission was seeking thoughts from the public as to <br />their vision of cable in the future. Those interested in completing a survey could visit <br />www.ctvnorthsuburbs.org/survey by October 31 St. She was pleased that the CenturyLink <br />franchise agreement had been approved and looked forward to reviewing this item at a Council <br />level. She provided comment on CenturyLink's five-year build out plan for the metro area and <br />looked forward to this company being viable in the community. She believed that <br />CenturyLink would offer all of the same services, if not more than Comcast has in the past. <br />Further discussion ensued regarding the negotiation process with Comcast. <br />Mary Buri <br />Councilmember Burg reported she attended the Public Safety Commission meeting on <br />September 28'h for Councilmember Strub. She appreciated the presentation given by Public <br />Safety Director Jacobson regarding 21St Century policing. She was proud of the City's Public <br />Safety model. She explained the PREC would be meeting next on Wednesday, October 14th. <br />She encouraged the public to attend the Fright Farm, run by the Ramsey County Sheriff's <br />Department and noted that all funds raised were invested back into youth services and police <br />equipment. She reviewed several upcoming events that would be held at the New Brighton <br />Community Center.
