<br />MINUTES <br />New Brighton Economic Development Commission <br />Regular Meeting – May 6, 2015 <br />7:30 a.m. <br /> <br />Members/Liaisons Present: Chair Paul Zisla, Commissioners, D.L. Beach, Monica Garcia-Perez, <br />Kevin Peck, Al Potter, Mike Murlowski, Bob Benke and Councilmember Paul Jacobsen <br /> <br />Members/Liaisons Absent: Commissioners Bruce Knight <br /> <br />Staff Present: Janice Gundlach- Assistant Director of Community Assets & Development/Planning <br />Director, Craig Schlichting- Director of Community Assets & Development, and Terri Haarstad-City <br />Clerk <br />Also Present: <br />Call to Order <br />Chairperson Zisla called the meeting to order at 7:30 a.m. <br /> <br />Approval of Minutes <br />Motion by Commissioner Murlowski, seconded by Commissioner Garcia-Perez to approve the minutes <br />from the March 18, 2015 meeting. <br /> <br />Approved 7-0 <br /> <br />Report from Council Liaison <br />Councilmember Paul Jacobsen reported the Council has been addressing the City’s water supply since <br />finding out two of its wells are contaminated with Dioxane. He stated the City was now pulling water <br />from the Mt. Sinai/Hinkley aquifer. He explained the City was working on a long-term solution at this <br />time. He discussed the Town Hall meeting noting that Dioxane was not found to be cancer causing, but <br />rather was a HERL. It was noted the Council would be addressing an urban farming Ordinance at their <br />May 12th meeting. He was pleased to report that The Exchange restaurant would be adding outdoor <br />seating this summer and the old Sinclair station would be torn down and a Northeast Bank would be <br />built. <br /> <br />A member asked who would be making a determination on the cleanliness of the old Sinclair property. <br />Gundlach explained that the MPCA would be working with the developer on this property. She <br />commented the tanks had already been removed from the site. She reviewed the site plan with the EDC. <br />She gave the EDC a brief report on the Champ’s property noting Champ’s was currently in bankruptcy <br />proceeding and discussions were being held with Cowboy Jack’s. <br /> <br />Business Retention <br /> <br />Business Retention (Memo and Background Information) <br />Gundlach provided the EDC with information on the City’s business retention efforts. <br /> <br />Twin Cities North Chamber of Commerce – Grow Minnesota Initiative <br />Brad Sanford, Twin Cities North Chamber of Commerce, thanked the EDC for their time. He discussed <br />his association with Grow Minnesota noting this was an initiative started by Chambers of Commerce in <br />order to keep businesses within the State and to help them grow. He reported that since 2003 Grow <br />Minnesota has conducted 9,052 one on one business visits. He explained that he completed 12 visits
