<br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. <br />STATE OF MINNESOTA <br />COUNTY OF RAMSEY <br />CITY OF NEW BRIGHTON <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION ACCEPTING THE ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT COMMISSION’S <br />RECOMMENDED BUSINESS RETENTION & EXPANSION PROGRAM. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Economic Development Commission presented several Economic <br />Development topics to the City Council at the joint Economic Development <br />Commission/City Council meeting on March 18, 2015, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, those topics included Business Retention and Expansion, Physical <br />Redevelopment, Housing, and Placemaking as described in the March 18, 2015 EDC <br />meeting materials, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City Council provided the Economic Development Commission <br />freedom to examine these topics more thoroughly and forward recommendations to the <br />Council at the appropriate time, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Economic Development Commission prioritized Business <br />Retention and Expansion above all topics as it best aligned with the duties and <br />responsibilities of the Economic Development Commission as outlined in City Code <br />Section 2-103, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Economic Development Commission discussed various business <br />retention and expansion initiatives during meetings held on May 6, 2015, August 5, 2015, <br />October 7, 2015 and November 4, 2015, and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Economic Development Commission, after much discussion and <br />thought regarding what is appropriate for the City of New Brighton, recommends the <br />following Business Retention and Expansion program: <br />1. Create web-based materials on the City’s website, including access to demographic <br />information, maps, available properties lists, and links to the local Chamber of <br />Commerce and other existing business resources (such as DEED and Greater MSP). <br />2. Starting in 2016, City staff starts conducting quarterly “New Brighton Business <br />Spotlight” visits. These visits would accomplish two goals: a) Conduct more <br />outreach to the business community and b) Provide more opportunities to locally <br />recognize the efforts of our business community. These visits would not consist of <br />data collection, only to learn how long the business has been in New Brighton and <br />what the business does. <br />3. Regularly report to the EDC on economic development efforts at the County level, <br />including Accelerate Ramsey County and economic gardening efforts. <br />4. Continue to nurture and expand upon the City’s current informal BR&E efforts, <br />which include:
