Director Fernelius asked for direction from the council.
Mayor Jacobsen stated he would act as liaison for the task force. The Mayor suggested interviewing the
applicants. Councilmember Burg and Jacobsen expressed concern with having ample time for interviewing
candidates. It was determined to have nine commissioners.
Manager Lotter suggested the Council request regular status updates from the commission.
Councilmember Bauman suggested the council not have a liaison, in order to remain neutral, and minimize
accessibility. Councilmember Jacobsen agreed with Councilmember Bauman regarding the liaison, especially
because of the volatile subject.
The council agreed they would like Commissioner Bruce Howard to serve as chairperson for the Task Force.
Manager Lotter clarified that if Mr. Howard is not available, staff could make other recommendations for
Chairperson.
Storm Update
Manager Lotter reported that residents have been inquiring about curb side pickup for their downed
trees/branches; stating there seems to be the expectation that the service will be provided. Lotter stated the
clean-up could be done by City Staff, with the additional expenses of equipment rental, and disposal cost;
estimated at $22,000. Councilmember Burg expressed concern with setting precedence with the clean-up.
Director Jacobson noted that this would be the second time the City has provided the service; the first time was
in 2005.
The council agreed to proceed with the City Manager's recommendation; clarifying that they will continue to
monitor on a case-by-case basis.
