January 27, 2015 Page 2 of 7 <br />5 Ayes, 0 Nays - Motion Carried <br />Commission Minutes <br />Mayor Jacobsen received the following minutes on behalf of the City: <br />Public Safety Commission minutes from September 29, 2014. <br />Special Order of Business <br />1. Annual Report from the Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission, Chair Jeanne <br />Frischman. <br />Jeanne Frischman, Chair of the Parks, Recreation and Environmental Commission, provided the Council <br />with a year in review of the PREC activities from 2014. She reviewed the members serving on the group and <br />noted there were two vacant seats at this time. She provided comment on the roles and responsibilities of <br />PREC. She then discussed several awards and recognitions the City received over the past year. She <br />commended staff for their efforts and noted she was looking forward to working on NBE parks and the Jones <br />Lake property in 2015. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen thanked Chair Frischman for her service and dedication to the City. <br />Councilmember Burg agreed and she appreciated Chair Frischman's expertise in the park area <br />Councilmember Bauman thanked Chair Frischman for her commitment to PREC. <br />Counciltnember Strub enjoyed working as the Council Liaison with PREC. He was proud of the <br />achievements of the group over the past year, in particular addressing the ice situation at Sunny Square Park <br />Mayor Jacobsen thanked Chair Frischman for her thorough report and for her service to the community. <br />2. Annual Report from the Public Safety Commission, Chair Robert Allen. <br />Robert Allen, Chair of the Public Safety Commission, provided the Council with a report of activity for 2014. <br />He reviewed the members serving on the Public Safety Commission along with the group's propose. He <br />discussed the primary responsibilities of the Commission noting a member from Allina was present at most <br />meetings. The Allina EMS activity for the previous year was discussed. He noted a major accomplishment <br />in 2014 was the Crosswalk Study and National Night Out events. He thanked the numerous Public Safety <br />volunteers that assisted the community. He provided comment on the significant department personnel <br />changes. <br />Councilmember Bauman appreciated Chair Allen for his service to the community and was proud of the <br />number of volunteer hours that were made to the Public Safety Department on a yearly basis. <br />Counciltnember Burg thanked Chair Allen for his dedication to the City. She asked when the Volunteer <br />Open House would be held. Public Safety Director Jacobson explained this would take place on April 26h. <br />Councilmember Jacobsen indicated Public Safety was a priority to the residents of New Brighton and he <br />appreciated all the work the Public Safety Commission did to complete the crosswalk study. <br />Councilmember Strub encouraged the Public Safety Commission to continue making improvements to the <br />City based on the findings in the crosswalk study. <br />Mayor Jacobsen appreciated the work completed by the Public Safety Commission along with the priorities <br />given the Council based on the crosswalk study. <br />Annual Report from the Planning Commission, Chair Bruce Howard. <br />Bruce Howard, Chair of the Planning Commission, provided the Council with a report and the activities <br />addressed by the Planning Commission in 2014. He listed the people now serving on the Commission and <br />appreciated their experience. He noted the statutory role of the Planning Commission and noted the group <br />processed approximately 25 land use cases in the previous year. He reviewed several large projects that <br />commenced in 2014. <br />Councilmember Bauman thanked Chair Howard for his leadership on the Planning Commission. <br />Commission Minutes <br />Special Order of <br />Business <br />1.
