In comparing three private fitness clubs, a single monthly membership averaged $54/month, compared to the NBCC fee of $23.96/month. There was not enough information gathered to compare each of the private clubs in terms of a family membership, but one club indicated it cost $122/month for a family membership compared to the NBCC fee of $36.42. Recommendation: The recommendation is to raise NBCC membership rates 8% beginning January 1, 2016. The grid below indicates the rate of NBCC memberships from 2010 and what the rates would be with the recommended 8% increase. These totals do not include the Minnesota Sales Tax of 7.125%. In 2010, membership rates were increased between a range of 5% to 10% depending on the membership type, which resulted in no more than $20 on an annual membership. In 2010, membership categories were streamlined, going from 53 to 24, as well as the addition of a monthly payment option. This allowed members to choose between making an annual payment for their membership or paying monthly.
