Other issues to consider: <br />If a change is made to hold municipal elections concurrently with State and Federal elections in <br />even numbered years, the City Council will need to consider the issue of Councilmember terms. <br />a. If the City Council chooses not address this issue, Councilmember terms expiring <br />in an odd -numbered year will automatically extend one year until the date of the <br />next (even -numbered year) election. <br />b. The City Council may wish to adopt a supplemental ordinance regulating the <br />transition wherein the terms of incumbents currently in office may be shortened <br />or lengthened. <br />c. If the City Council chooses not to address this issue, state statutes dictate that <br />terms automatically be lengthened. <br />
