Mayor Johnson asked what are two or three of the most important responsibilities an advisory commission <br />member has to his or her community. <br />Graeme Allen believed a resident should have an understanding of the purpose of the committee along with the <br />vision of the City. He indicated the Planning Commission has a clear understanding of its purpose as this <br />would help in directing where the City was going. He thought it was also important that commission members <br />maintain the integrity of the City when considering potential developments. This would ensure new <br />developments met the stated goals and fit well in the City. He stated if contentious issues were to arise, he <br />believed it would be important to understand the pulse of the community. <br />Councilmember Bauman asked why Mr. Allen would be a good person to represent the opinions and concerns <br />of the City New Brighton. <br />Mr. Allen commented through his career he had a lot of experience working in government and policies. He <br />stated he had never worked on a remodeling project, but had experience in statutes and other logistics. He <br />believed he was a team player and understood the importance of reaching a consensus. <br />Councilmember Strub requested Mr. Allen briefly describe any experience he had related to development and <br />redevelopment. <br />Mr. Allen stated he did not have a ton. He stated he had completed several research projects for the new <br />Vikings Stadium. He indicated he also investigated neighborhood issues regarding light rail for the Met <br />Council. <br />Councilmember Burg asked if there was a newer development project that he was aware of in the City. She <br />questioned what Mr. Allen thought about this development and if it was good for the community. <br />Mr. Allen commented the biggest development project in the City has been the New Brighton Exchange. He <br />was super happy development occurred on this site, given the state of the economy. He believed the focus was <br />great and was pleased that the development accommodated both existing and new businesses. He was <br />impressed by the success of the new houses within NBE. <br />Mayor Johnson thanked Mr. Allen for his time and noted she would be in touch. <br />Mayor Johnson welcomed Melissa Murphy to the meeting and thanked him for being willing to serve the City <br />as a commissioner. <br />Councilmember Bauman asked what are two or three of the most important responsibilities an advisory <br />commission member has to his or her community. <br />Melissa Murphy thought it would be important to look out for the safety of the community as well as having a <br />well-rounded perspective. <br />Councilmember Strub asked why Ms. Murphy would be a good person to represent the opinions and concerns <br />of the City New Brighton. <br />Ms. Murphy stated she has been in the community her entire life. She indicated her father, grandfather and <br />husband have all been a part of the fire department. She wanted to contribute her ideas and offer support to <br />this organization. <br />
